Bariatric surgery is suitable for the people of both the groups. Diet and weight-loss medications have little impact on the people of first group of extreme obesity.

The surgeons have been doing the bariatric surgery for fifty years. The American Society for Bariatric Surgery says that the number of people undergoing the procedure rose from 36,700 in 2000 to 171,000 in 2005.

Bariatric surgery results in long-term weight reduction and help to improve over all health. People who had this surgery one decade before, ninety percent of them managed to keep off fifty percent of the excess weight on the average for even after ten years of surgery.
