Your family does not have a history of obesity. Your kid is eating right and exercising right but to your horror, you find that he is growing obese and you wonder what could be the reason. Plastics and pesticides you were exposed to during your pregnancy is the answer.
Yes, Frederick vom Saal, a scientist at University of Missouri-Columbia found during his study that the chemicals in the pesticides alter the way the genes function when the fetuses are exposed to them and makes them more prone to obesity.
vom Saal said.Certain environmental substances called endocrine-disrupting chemicals can change the functioning of a fetus’s genes, altering a baby’s metabolic system and predisposing him or her to obesity. This individual could eat the same thing and exercise the same amount as someone with a normal metabolic system, but he or she would become obese, while the other person remained thin.
Prof vom Saal studied the effects of the endocrine disrupting chemicals on mice and found that the mice though born at a low birth weight doubled their weights in just seven days and remained obese throughout their lives. The effect would be similar in children who are exposed to gadgets like mobile phones, plastic toys, and CD cases.
Make sure that you don’t expose your children to the gadgets emitting these chemicals. Of course count the calories before you feed them and let them exercise.
