We all know that antioxidants like vitamin C shower upon us several health benefits and its cancer-fighting property is one of those benefits, but if you are a person with excess fat in your stomach then you may perhaps fail to suck up those cancer-fighting properties of vitamin C. This fact was put forward by a new study, conducted by scientists at the University of Glasgow.
During the course of study, experts found that in the presence of lipid the efficacy of antioxidants, such as ascorbic acid - an active component of vitamin C, to protect against the generation of potential cancer-forming compounds in the stomach was less than when no lipids were present. Backing up this finding further, researchers states that antioxidants such as ascorbic acid shield against the formation of these nitrosocompounds by turning the nitrosating species back into nitric oxide. However, in the presence of lipids it fails to do it successfully.
So, it means, in order to reap cancer-fighting benefits of vitamin C or ascorbic acid one must shed off excess fat of the belly.
