Children are now to attend their classes standing! In Britain, chair-free classrooms where pupils stand for hours each day are being introduced. Researchers found that through this, children burnt so many extra calories that the long-term effect on their waistlines was “significant”.
The pupils spent an average of five hours a day standing! This is a position that burns up to three times as many calories as when you are sitting down. A British expert, on obesity, Dr James Levine, a medical consultant at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota spearheaded this approach. Stand-up lessons can provide an answer to childhood obesity problems, he believes - rather convinced.
