However, the Department of Health has already issued guidance to NHS trusts on the new weight checks.
Thirty-three per cent of boys and thirty-five per cent of girls are estimated to be too ‘heavy’. The school nurses will carry out the first checks this year and it will design a ‘fat map’ of the U K. The data will help to scrutinize the Government’s progress for its target to halt obesity increase among kids under 11 by 2010.
