
A study on obesity published in the Journal of Occupational and Environmental Medicine. It says that the obesity is responsible to major part of employee’s medical claim. It is 2.1 percent for male and 2.8 percent for female employee.
Obesity is responsible for 14 percent of lifestyle related health costs for men. It is 25 percent for women. In the total costs to the health plan, obesity cost $3.55 per member per month (PMPM) for male employees. It is $5.71 for female employees.
Employers expects employee obesity as the indirect cost to the company. It may be resulted in less productivity, and rising absence rate. Overweight of employee is affecting the bottom line of functioning.
