Yet another pathogen’s role in the increase of obesity cases worldwide. The virus Ad-36 might have a hand in causing weight gain! A study conducted on Australians showed this. Ad-36 is a human adenovirus that causes eye infections, colds, and diarrhea.
The instances of obesity rise with exposure to the adenovirus are also found among animals. Experiments with chickens and mice had shown that Ad-36 infection led to weight gain.
‘The uninfected animals got infected and got fat,’ says Atkinson, researcher leading the study, from the University of Wisconsin at Madison. The study explains the rising instances of obesity in Australia and also in other parts of the world, he further added.
