The Journal of the American Society of Nephrology is going to publish a study claiming obesity as factor of chronic kidney failure. The study is called ‘Obesity and Risk of Chronic Renal Failure’.



The team of researchers evaluated body mass index (BMI) and other potential risk factors in 926 patients of chronic kidney failure. They came to the conclusion about the possible strong link between obesity and chronic renel failure (CRF).The link between obesity and kidney failure was strongest for diabetes-related kidney disease.



Obesity at age of twenty tripled the risk of CRF despite not having high blood pressure and diabetes, the major risk factors for chronic kidney failure. Moreover, researchers also say that obesity causes 15 percent of CRF in men and 11 percent in women.
