The Royal Children’s Hospital has come out revealing that it has seen a great rise in the number of children under the age of 14 with anorexia and experts hold advertisements, celebrity magazines and people’s passion to get slim, responsible for this. According to hospital’s officials, this time the number of children with anorexia is 10 times more compared to the figures in the year 2003.

The severity of the problem can be estimated with the fact that whereas three years ago this hospital treated just three children under the ages 14 with anorexia, now it has reached the figure of 35 children. This clearly shows that more and more children under the age of 14 are fast being ensnarled by anorexia.

Here I would like to say that Australia is not the only country with increased number of children suffering form anorexia but several other countries are also passing though the same phase. The problem of anorexia is not of developed countries; rather it’s a global phenomenon. Experts believe that in most of the cases the problem of anorexia (loss of appetite) sprouts out of unhealthy eating habits, especially due to eating less food, often bring in use to stay slim.

Earlier, the tendency to stay away form eating food was most prevalent in adults but now in the recent few years a great increase has been reported in the number of children under the age of 14 treading the same path, which I think is a shocking issue. I think, for this, these children are not to be blamed because when they see their favorite stars on televisions, magazines, newspapers, and internet, giving slim-trim looks, they automatically get tempted to have the same look and consider dieting as the best tool to chisel out their extra fat, which often springs out several health related problems. Now the question arises that how this vogue for slimming can be hold back. So, I think children should be told about the fact that dieting is not going to suffice their purpose but sufficient participation in outdoor activities can help them. Moreover, the importance of nutritious should be imparted to them. Only by these methods, we can prevent children from extirpating their lives.
