There was a time when kids would get excited when they got their first bicycle as a gift. Those were the days when kids pedaled around the block with their friends happily while their parents watched proudly. These days neither the parents nor the kids have the inclination to get out of the couch once they are ensconced in front of the T.V. No wonder, the world is becoming heavier!

Now, toy-maker Fisher-price has come up with an innovative solution to tackle the problem of growing obesity among kids. Kids can now pedal away on the stationary bike called Smart Cycle, while they imagine they are on the road, fields, mountains and even in a race as these computer generated images appear on the TV screen. The Smart Cycle comes with software which plays a number of different games when connected to the television and is priced at £99.99.
The manufacturers claim the Smart Cycle actually encourages the kids to get off the couch by getting involved in physical activities. But critics argue that it could make parents lazier and kids forget playing in the real world as they get more addicted to television.
The thrill of playing outdoors with their friends and the excitement of winning a game is a different thing altogether. If you are loaded with money and don’t want to get off the couch yourself, Smart Cycle may keep your kid active. But remember, kids get bored easily and outgrow their fascination for a new toy pretty fast.
