Weight loss supplements come with side effects

Synthetic forms of Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA), which are commonly used by people to bring down their body weight, may have side effects too, researchers presume. Actually, tests conducted on lab mice have given them a reason to think so because during the course of their study, they found that where mice, fed on CLA-supplemented diet, lost weight very fast, at the same time these mice accumulated excessive amounts of fat in their livers too, which is a common side effect of rapid weight loss. It is worth knowing that excessive fat accumulation in the liver is linked to insulin resistance, a hallmark of Type 2 diabetes. On the basis of these facts, it can certainly be said that people using CLA supplements to lose their body weight may no doubt succeed in this. However, it can also not be denied out-rightly that such people may be at higher risk of developing Type 2 diabetes. However, the question remains unanswered that would human mechanism respond like that of lab mice. Personally, I believe that the answer to this question would depend on further exploration largely. The following words of Martha Belury, the lead author of both studies, vindicate this idea: CLA may or may not have a similar effect on humans, and it will take time to determine how the human body responds to the supplement.
