Spanish kids most fatty!

We all know that obesity is fast growing round the world but in European countries it is marching ahead with somewhat more speed, the report coming about the country Spain clearly proves this fact. According to an estimate, one in three Spanish children is overweight, which is one of the worst records in Europe. Moreover, this obesity is nurturing out at an alarming rate, whereas in 1980s there were only 15, percent overweight children but now shockingly within a decade this percentage has almost doubled. These facts clearly show that how severely obesity is pluming out, which may quite likely result in several other health related problems like, depression, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases etc. It really requires strong measures to curb fast growing obesity.

Eat slowly to bring down your calorie intake by 70 %!

If you wish to keep your weight checked then eating slowly may help you in this, a new study by the University of Rhode Island has pulled out this fact. To prove it, researchers divided 30 college-aged women into two groups and both these groups were asked to eat pasta with tomato and vegetables sauce and Parmesan cheese. However, first group was asked to eat food without pausing between bites while second group was asked to put their forks down and chew between bites. Finally, researchers concluded that those who ate slowly consumed 579 calories in 29 minutes. On the other end, those who ate fast consumed 646 calories in the same duration. Another thing that crept out of this study states that slow eaters were feeling full an hour after their meal compared to fast eaters. Telling about the long-term use of such eating habit Kathleen Melanson, assistant professor of nutrition and food science at the University of Rhode Island said that a measured eating speed — especially during three daily meals — could cause people to eat up to 210 fewer calories a day.

Obesity good for patients with MHD?

In spite of better treatment, a big percentage of patients with maintenance hemodialysis or MHD die each year in United States. According to a new study, this increase in mortality rate can be due to malnutrition. However, another report proves that obesity is good for patients with MHD because it is associated with increased chance of survival. Telling more deeply about this ‘obesity paradox’ Kamyar Kalantar-Zadeh M.D., who is author of the study says: A larger body fat mass as seen in obesity probably represents protective reserves that may mitigate the adverse effects of malnutrition in patients. Patients with MHD have normally been found with a high degree of protein-energy malnutrition and inflammation and experts believe that confluence of these two conditions, which is known as Kidney Disease Wasting or KDW turns a patient more susceptible to death. However, increase in protein intake higher up the chances of patient’s survival.

Diverse Testosterone levels plays havoc with the obese

Obesity can bring in some abnormalities in the testosterone level of both boys and girls. Two different scientific studies have come out with this conclusion. The first study tracked more than 1,667 men found that obesity normally results in fast decline of testosterone level in men. Conversely, second study, which tracked about 104 girls, uncovered the fact that obese girls have two to nine times more levels of testosterone compared to the girls of normal weight. This is a serious issue because whereas decline in testosterone level in males leads to problems like decrease sex drive, low stamina, and decreased bone density. At the same time, high testosterone level in females invite shocking changes like it can harm reproductive health, can prompt excessive hair growth and can also make females more prone to diabetes. It would not be wrong to say that obesity is such a disease that brings nothing good but just problems and more problems. Therefore, the best solution to stave off all such problems is to get rid of obesity by low calorie diet and adequate exercise.

Obesity hitting Chinese hard: Herbs are not the solution!

It is not just America or England that are being threatened by the rise in obesity cases but obesity is swaggering in Asian countries as well and China is the best example of this. In the recent years rise in obesity has made Chinese people more vulnerable to diseases like heart attack, diabetes, depression, cancer, etc. According to an estimate, there are about 7 million people overweight in Hong Kong alone. Moreover, the statistics of the year 2000 indicate that there were about 10 million overweight in China between the ages 7 to 18. These figures show that obesity is clutching China too. Another startling thing is that Chinese herbs are quite in demand in to get rid of the extra flab but many such cases have come to view that shows that these herbs are giving way to several side effects, making situation more critical. Therefore, we will have to understand that medicines, herbs can just be adopted as supportive methods to fight obesity but depending on such supportive methods utterly would also not be right because radical causes of obesity rise are bad eating habits, high calorie intake and sedentary lifestyle. So, don’t you think setting all these things in a right way can help overcoming obesity that is fast moving to be a pandemic?

Bacteria in gut may be keeping you fat!

Even after doing exercise daily and eating less calorie diet is not helping you out in cutting that extra flab, then chances are high that germs in your gut are the main culprit. A new study has given you a reason to think in such a way. Actually, these researchers found in their study that people and mice that have lower percentage of bacteria Bacteroidetes and Higher percentage of bacteria called Firmicutes were obese when compared with others. In the same study, researchers tracked about 12 obese people who followed low-calorie diets for a year and it was found that the levels of bacteria Bacteroidetes rose in these people gradually as they turned slim. However, the mystery is still unriddled, whether the rise in the percentage of Bacteroidetes leads to weight loss or decline in the percentage of Firmicutes leads to weight loss. But one thing is certain that both these forms of bacteria play a crucial role in weight loss and weight gain as well. Therefore, it becomes more important to know what is lying at the bottom and for that researchers will have to keep their study in motion.

You can be fat, even when you’re skinny!

Appearances are deceptive, this phrase is quite suitable to tell that how deceptive your physic could be because sometimes those who look slim may be obese and those who look obese can be slim, means healthy. Yea, you got it right. Actually, understanding obesity is not less than solving a riddle. However, new study has tried to unriddle this mystery and doing so, it found that people who outwardly look slim could be at higher risk of heart diseases and diabetes while those looking obese can be far away from such health threats because it is fat around our vital internal organs that determine their safety, not external fat. To find this fact, researchers used MRI scans and came up with these conclusions. The study of Simon Relph, a marketing art director from Sydenham, Lon and Neil Ferguson, 23 a marketing designer from Bexley Village, Kent provides an ideal example of this. Through MRI scan , fact was naked that Simon, whose BMI was 27.7 and was giving a slim look, was actually carrying 15 liters of internal fat. On the other hand, Neil, 23 who was somewhat obese and was having BMI of 28.1 was carrying just 4 liters of internal fat. Surprisingly, Simon who gave slim look accepted that he was not indulging in physical activities while his colleagues Neil accepted that he was playing football quite often. If seen in the light of this new study, then it is Simon who is at higher risk, compared to his colleague Neil. Don’t you think that when this study would come out then it would stand quite head to head to the traditional ways that doctors use to measure a person’s health? For instance, when a person goes for physical check up then doctors predicts about his cardiovascular health by measuring his BMI but if seen in the light of this new study, we cannot deny that measuring BMI is not a precise method to predict cardiovascular health. This finding is quite significant, which has tried to look at the whole concept in a new way.

Obesity at its peak in England!

Obesity is getting from worse to worst in England, a new report has undraped this fact. This report further uncovers several other startling facts, so, first let’s have a look at these facts before moving ahead. (1) Number of prescriptions written for anti-obesity drugs was just 127,000 in the year 1999 while compared to 871,000 in the year 2005. (2) In the last six years prescriptions for anti-obesity drugs has increased by 600 percent. (3) Body mass index or BMI, which was just 13.2 percent among English men in the year 1993, has reached 22.1 percent in 2005. (4) Where BMI of English women was 16.4 percent in 1993, it has reached 21.9 percent in the year 2005. (5) Obesity has managed to engulf English kids as well. (6) In the year 1995, 10.9 percent boys were obese while in the year 2005 this percentage reached the height of 18 percent. (7) In the year 1995, where 12 percent girls were obese, while this figure reached 18.1 percent in the year 2005. (8) In Europe, England is the country where obesity is catching up at highest rate. These figures show that how obesity is pluming out in England, causing a great threat to its people. The more grim fact is that kids are also been swallowed up by obesity and doubtlessly it can be said that if obesity keeps on rising at this speed then England would look more like a den of ailing people. As we know, obesity is such a lap where all kinds of physical as well as psychological disorders get cherished. Among such physical and mental disorders, we may chiefly count problems like heart diseases, Osteoarthritis, Diabetes, gallbladder disease, cancer, depression, etc. This problem looks more horrendous when we find that not only elders but also kids are being targeting by obesity. To hold a single cause responsible for this much of rise in obesity would not be right and I think there are many factors at the bottom nurturing the giant tree of obesity and counting bad eating habits, sedentary lifestyle, and decreased participation in outdoor games would not be wrong. However, question, remains still unriddled that what should be done to hold back the situation, which is fast getting from worse to worst. for that first of all people will have to understand their responsibility to check this hike in obesity cases and for that they will have to follow healthy eating as well as living pattern, which could help them stemming obesity. At the same time, government as well as NGOs will also have to come forward encouraging people for participating in such activities that may help them reducing their fat. Moreover, schools should understand their responsibility and should make sure that every kid participates in physical activity. It is need of the hour and we will have to do something to check this rise in obesity because the rate at which obesity is striding in England if not checked then future of England is bound to be full of problems, problems and nothing but just problems.

Obesity: A major threat to kidney transplant patients!

Kidney transplant, especially if you are obese may worsen your health condition. A new study that tracked several patients has divulged this startling fact. Besides, this study evinces that survival chances of obese people after kidney transplant are titular and such people are more likely to suffer organ failure after kidney transplant. Another fact coming out of this study states that six percent of the patients with BMI higher than 30, died within first year after transplant while this was not the case with patients whose BMI was measured below 30. Actually, this is not the first study that shows the negative impact of obesity on our health but on medical treatments as well. Most of us know that obesity gives rise to several health related problems among which diabetes, depression, cardiovascular diseases more prominently comes out and this study, one again confirms that obesity is a major hindrance in health gain and if are really concerned about our health then we will not have to let it grow.

Bigger bellies hide threat of heart disease!

Watch out your belly hanging out, it can be a threat to your heart. This fact has hung out of a long study of 12-years, which studied over 100,000 men and women and found that people with bigger bellies were at 40% higher risks of suffering from hardening of the arteries, angina, ultimately leading to heart attacks compared to people normal people. Besides, it was also found that women with bigger bellies were more vulnerable to heart diseases than men. Unfortunately, this is an unpleasant revelation, because these days men as well as women are found carrying bigger bellies and if we keep in mind the results that have appeared from this study then it would not be wrong to say that actually such people carry the bale of diseases with them.
